“The Curtiss XF11C-3 fighter in 1933-34. A single F11C-2 (BuNo 9269) was converted and fitted with a hand-operated retractable landing gear, designated XF11C-3. 27 production models were delivered starting in October 1934, having been re-designated BF2C-1 Goshawk. The operated with bombing squadron VB-5 from the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-4) for a few months before being withdrawn because of problems with the landing gear.”
